I don’t know about you, but the closer I get to the wedding, the more surreal it is to me. Post bachelorette weekend, and only 4 months away from the big day, I have been doing a lot of reflecting! What keeps coming to my mind and heart is the word savor. Savoring these big moments and milestones, savoring living alone for the last time, savoring my last name. I truly believe that each season and chapter of my relationship with Jesse has had a purpose, and it has been eye opening to see how the Lord has revealed that over our time of engagement. We decided to have a long engagement, and I have been very grateful for that. While we are SO ready to be married, enjoying each part of the process has been incredibly sweet.
Wedding planning is fun and definitely necessary, but alongside those decisions are choices you and your fiance need to make in preparing for the marriage itself. Engagement is meant for more than wedding planning, it is also meant for preparing for your marriage, and planning your future together. There are many emotions that coincide with this, whether it be joy for the marriage and union, grief for losing your last name (me), reflection on the way you were raised, compromises in blending families, anxiety for the unknown. This season brings up a lot to feel and process, and I encourage all of you who are in the thick of engagement to sit in it too…How can you savor your engagement? How can you prepare for the marriage ahead?
